Flex LNG has on Friday taken delivery of the first newbuild in 2021 boosting its fleet to eleven vessels in operation.

South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering delivered the Flex Freedom at 08:15 Korea time or 00:15 Central European Time.

Seems like Flex timed the handover to enter 2021 as the first owner to take an LNG carrier delivery.

Announcing the delivery last month, the Norway-based shipping company said the vessel would be delivered in a “red hot gas market” as spot LNG prices surged to record highs.

Flex Freedom features MAN’s high pressure two-stroke slow-speed propulsion system (ME-GI) and GTT’s NO96 containment system. It also has a full reliquefaction system with a boil-off rate of 0.035% per day.

The vessel is one of the three remaining unfixed newbuildings besides Flex Volunteer and Flex Vigilance.

Additionally, another two carriers will join the Flex fleet by the second quarter for a total of thirteen vesels.
