GTT nets Jiangnan order for two LNG carriers

France’s GTT said it will design the tanks of two LNG carriers being built at Chinese shipbuilder Jiangnan.

According to a statement by GTT, Jiangnan will build the two 175,000-cbm LNG carriers for Shandong Marine Energy (Singapore).

The tanks will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system.

Moreover, GTT said the delivery of the vessels is scheduled between the first and second quarters of 2027.

The Paris-based LNG containment giant did not provide any additional information.

In March this year, Taiping & Sinopec Financial Leasing (TSFL), a non-wholly owned subsidiary of China Taiping Insurance, and two special purpose vehicles (SPVs), Taiping 26 and Taiping 27, ordered these two 175,000-cbm LNG carriers at Jiangnan.

The contract has a price tag of about $470 million or $235 million per vessel.

As part of the finance lease agreements, Taiping 26 and Taiping 27 entered into bareboat charter deals with Shandong Marine Energy (Singapore) or SDM.

Following these new contracts, Jiangan has eight 175,000-cbm LNG carriers on order.

Last year, Jiangnan won its first order for large LNG carriers and will build in total six LNG vessels for a unit of UAE’s Abu Dhabi National Oil Co (Adnoc).

These “LNG Jumbo” dual-fuel carriers will also feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane system and a partial reliquefaction system.
