US continues to approve LNG export extensions

The US Department of Energy has approved additional LNG export authorizations boosting the total to eighteen projects.

DOE said in a statement last week it extended the terms of five long-term LNG export authorizations.

This move follows several LNG export term extensions issued in October and December pursuant to an export term policy statement DOE finalized in July.

The new term extensions include the Southern LNG export facility operating in Georgia, Sempra’s Cameron LNG in Louisiana, and the Annova project proposed for Texas.

Additionally, DOE granted an extension to Eagle LNG’s two small-scale facilities in Florida, including the Maxville facility currently in operation.

These issuances extend each project’s long-term LNG export authorization to non-free trade agreement countries through December 31, 2050.

Including the new term extension applications, eighteen US LNG export projects, as well as the Costa Azul project in Mexico, now hold long-term authorizations with export terms through 2050, DOE said.
