Nakilat welcomes another LNG newbuild in its fleet

Qatar’s Nakilat has taken delivery of the second out of four LNG newbuilds from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering.

DSME delivered the 173,400 cbm Global Star to Nakilat’s joint venture Global Shipping.

LNG shipping giant Nakilat owns 60% percent share in the venture while Greece’s Maran Ventures holds the rest.

Additionally, Nakilat manages the vessel commercially and technically.

Nakilat did not reveal the charterer of the vessel but LNG Prime understands it could be the Hague-based energy giant Shell.

This newbuilding follows the delivery of Global Energy in May last year. This vessel ships LNG for US exporter Cheniere under a charter deal.

Both Global Energy and Global Star feature ME-GI engines while the other two newbuilds have X-DF propulsion technologies. DSME should deliver these two carriers by the end of 2021.

Furthermore, the delivery of all four newbuild LNG carriers will bring Nakilat’s fleet to 74 vessels. According to Nakilat, this is just under 12% of current global LNG fleet in carrying capacity.
