Gasum teams up with Scania to build new LNG station in Sweden

Finland’s Gasum and Sweden’s Scania have joined forces to build a new filling station for LNG and CNG in Sweden.

The new station located right next to truck maker Scania near the Sodertalje Syd road junction will open in the first half of 2024, according to a statement by Gasum.

Both heavy-duty transport and smaller vehicles will be able to refuel at the station.

Gasum said that the partnership with Scania enables the filling station to be built in this strategic location where access to land can otherwise be a challenge.

The company plans to install two compressed gas dispensers and two liquefied gas dispensers.

This is more than the standard design and will allow faster refueling and “considerably greater” capacity compared to older stations, Gasum said.

Gasum said it is Sweden’s largest biogas producer and this move expands its infrastructure in the country.

In July, Gasum purchased two-thirds of the shares in Swedish company Liquidgas Biofuel Genesis which owns and operates a biogas upgrading plant in the city of Helsinborg in southern Sweden.

The acquisition is part of Gasum’s strategic goal to bring 7 TWh of renewable gas to market yearly by 2027.

Gasum aims to achieve this by increasing its own biogas production as well as sourcing from partners.

The firm is currently constructing the first of five large new bio-LNG plants in Gotene, Sweden.
