CIMC SOE lays keel for Hartmann’s second LNG-fueled LEG carrier

Chinese shipbuilder Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering has hosted a keel-laying ceremony for the second LNG dual-fuel liquid ethylene gas (LEG) carrier it is building for German shipping group Hartmann.

The ceremony, attended by officials from CIMC SOE, Hartmann, and DNV, took place on October 16, according to a statement by the shipbuilder.

This vessel (S1064) is the second of three Hartmann’s 7,200-cbm LEG carriers.

CIMC SOE recently launched the first LNG-powered vessel in this series, GasChem Fuji.

The shipbuilder said that GasChem Fuji is about 116 meters long and 18 meters wide.

Also, the LEG carrier has a design draft of 7 meters and a deadweight of about 6,300 tons.

Leer-based and family-owned Hartmann ordered these vessels at CIMC SOE last year.

GasChem Services, a part of Hartmann, expects to take delivery of all of the three LNG-powered ships in 2024.

Hartmann operates a fleet of more than 150 vessels and these include gas carriers, containerships, and multi-purpose vessels, according to its website.
