CMA CGM welcomes fifth LNG-powered giant in its fleet

China State Shipbuilding Corporation’s Hudong-Zhonghua has completed another ultra-large LNG-powered containership for French shipping group CMA CGM.

Hudong held a naming ceremony for the 23,000 TEU CMA CGM Rivoli at its Shanghai Jiangnan-Changxing Shipyard on Friday.

The Chinese yard says the vessel will soon depart to Europe.

To remind, LNG Prime recently reported that the vessel was ready for delivery as it had completed gas trials.

Hudong is building five while CSSC’s Jiangnan Shipyard is constructing four ULCVs in this batch of nine world’s largest LNG-powered vessels.

This is the third vessel for Hudong as it already delivered the flagship Jacques Saade and Palais Royal while Jiangan handed over the Champs Elysees and the CMA CGM Louvre.

All of the ships will be 400 meters long and 61 meters wide and CMA CGM will deploy them on the Europe-Asia route.

Additionally, the ships feature WinGD’s dual-fuel engines and GTT’s 18,600-cbm fuel tank, both largest ever built.

They will serve CMA CGM on the Europe-Asia route.
