Avenir LNG’s CEO steps down

Avenir LNG’s chief executive officer, Peter Mackey, has decided to step down from his role at the London-based small-scale LNG player.

Mackey announced this decision on Monday via his LinkedIn account saying that he would remain with the company until the end of the first quarter of 2024 to “ensure a smooth transition process to my successor.”

Avenir is a joint venture consisting of Stolt-Nielsen, Hoegh LNG, and Golar LNG.

“When I joined Avenir in January 2020, we were a brand-new company with only 8 employees in London and some bold ambitions in the small-scale LNG sector,” Mackey said.

“Today, we have grown to more than 200 people working in 8 countries across our fleet of 5 small-scale LNG ships and our onshore import terminal in Italy,” he said.

Mackey noted that Avenir performed “hundreds of LNG deliveries” from the company’s ship and truck network and have built an “enviable platform” in the small-scale LNG sector.

He said that Avenir is “about to enter a new phase of growth and I think it’s the right time for a new leader to take the company forward.”

“It has been a huge privilege to lead Avenir and I’ll be cheering on from the side-lines to see where it goes next,” Mackey said.

Avenir working to find a replacement

Avenir said in a separate statement later on Monday that the company’s board of directors “are working to find a replacement”.

“In the interim Avenir LNG commercial director, Jonathan Quinn will work closely with the Avenir leadership team and the board to ensure the smooth running of the company until a permanent replacement is found,” the company said.

Avenir also announced that Udo Lange, CEO of Stolt-Nielsen, will join the Avenir board as director, replacing Jan Chr. Engelhardtsen who also stepped down from his position in November 2023.
