KSOE’s Hyundai Samho adds another LNG carrier to order book

South Korea’s shipbuilder Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries will build one LNG carrier for an unidentified owner as part of a contract revealed on Monday.

Parent firm Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering said in a filing to the stock exchange the deal has a price tag of about 198.9 billion won ($181 million).

Furthermore, Hyundai Samho will deliver the 174,000-cbm vessel to a Liberia-based owner by August 2023, according to the filling.

The new order for KSOE and its units follows several LNG carrier deals but also contracts for LNG-powered vessels.

At the end of last year, KSOE announced that Hyundai Samho would construct nine LNG carriers worth 1.82 trillion won tied to the Total-led $20 billion Mozambique LNG project.

Additionally, the firm revealed last week an order to build six LNG-powered containerships for an unidentified Asian owner.

Under this deal, Hyundai Heavy Industries will build four 15,000 TEU vessels while Hyundai Samho will construct two ships.

LNG Prime understands that Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, already a customer for KSOE and its units, is the owner behind this new order.
