TGE Marine clinches contract for LNG-fueled PCTCs

Bonn-based TGE Marine Gas Engineering has secured a contract to provide equipment for four LNG-powered pure car and truck carriers currently being built in China.

The company said it won the contract from a consortium of ship owners including Norway’s Gram Car Carriers and Germany’s Reederei F. Laeisz.

Last year, Global Auto Carriers (GAC), a new firm backed by Gram Car Carriers, ordered four LNG dual-fuel PCTCs at China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai.

Besides four firm dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of 7,000 units, the order also includes options for 2+2 ships.

Delivery of the PCTCs will take place from the fourth quarter of 2025 through the fourth quarter of 2026.

According to Gram’s website, Reederei F. Laeisz will manage the vessels.

These are first LNG-powered PCTCs for the two firms and also represent TGE Marine’s first order with Gram Car Carriers and Reederei Laeisz, TGE Marine said.

The contract scope includes two type-C LNG fuel gas tanks per vessel with a capacity of 1,675 cbm each and the fuel gas supply system.

TGE Marine will also supply its recondenser system which enhances the boil-off gas (BOG) handling solution with an elevated recondensation rate equivalent to up to 20 percentof the main engine’s overall fuel consumption, leading to reduced costs, fuel consumption, and CO2 emissions, the firm claims.

Extensive BOG handling studies that TGE Marine carried out with the companies prior to the signing of the contract allowed it to develop a tailor-made system for the ship owners, it said.

TGE Marine did not reveal the price tag of the contract.
