Portuguese energy firm and LNG player Galp has named Shell’s former upstream chief as new CEO following the departure of Carlos Gomes da Silva.

Andy Brown, who left the Hague-based LNG giant Shell last year after three years as upstream director, will take over from Gomes da Silva on February 19.

In addition, Brown will take the role of vice-chairman of the Galp board.

Since stepping down from Shell, Bown has taken on several roles, including vice chairman of SBM, senior advisor to McKinsey and Co, consultant for JMJ and advisor to ZeroAvia, a hydrogen/fuel cell aviation start-up company.

On the other side, Gomes da Silva joined Galp in 2007 and took over as CEO in April 2015, holding several executive roles, namely for distribution, trading, commercialisation and marketing of oil products, natural gas and electricity, as well as corporate divisions.
