Canada’s Woodfibre LNG tells McDermott to begin work on its export project

Canada’s Woodfibre LNG, a unit of Pacific Energy, said it has issued a notice to proceed to US contractor McDermott to start work on its 2.1 mtpa LNG terminal in British Columbia.

“This notice to proceed is an instruction from Woodfibre LNG to McDermott to begin the work required in order to move the project toward major construction commencement in 2023,” the company said in a statement on Thursday.

In November last year, Woodfibre LNG awarded the engineering, procurement, fabrication, and construction (EPFC) contract to McDermott.

The US firm would manage onshore construction of the facility with floating storage of about 250,000 cbm located about 7 km west-southwest of Squamish.

Woodfibre LNG said in the new statement it expects to reach substantial completion of the plant powered with renewable hydroelectricity in 2027.

The LNG terminal developer did not provide any additional information.

Woodfibre LNG has not yet announced a final investment decision on the project.

It recently said it would spend $500 million on its planned 2.1 mtpa LNG terminal this year.
