Chart and ABB ink pact to work on LNG, hydrogen projects

US LNG equipment maker Chart Industries and Swiss engineering group ABB are joining forces to work on modular offerings for LNG and hydrogen projects.

The duo signed a development and commercial memorandum of understanding which also includes biogas, water treatment and CO2 capture projects, Chart said in a statement.

Under the deal, ABB would provide control system and electrical equipment to support Chart’s modular offerings. The partnership is modularizing solutions in “key emerging segments to drive down cost and minimize risks,” the statement said.

As part of the memorandum, ABB will develop standard modular controls, automation, power supply but also telecoms solutions for several Chart offerings.

These include hydrogen and natural gas liquefaction plants where there is significant electrical content as well as BlueInGreen water treatment dissolution skids and carbon capture plants.

Chart’s chief executive Jill Evanko said in the statement this deal with ABB would boost the company’s process technology and equipment offering for standardized, modular, and short lead-time small-scale solutions to the “next level.”
