Cove Point LNG export plant back online after maintenance

The Cove Point LNG export facility in Maryland is now back in action following the completion of a three-week maintenance outage.

Berkshire Hathaway’s unit BHE GT&S, the operator of the US LNG terminal, said in a notice on Tuesday that the “Cove Point liquefaction facility annual maintenance is complete.”

BHE GT&S previously announced that maintenance at the facility would start on September 20.

The firm became the operator of the Cove Point plant last year after Berkshire Hathaway bought Dominion Energy’s natural gas transmission and storage business and 25 percent in the Cove Point plant.

Dominion owns 50 percent while Energy & Brookfield Asset Management holds 25 percent as well.

The Cove Point facility began producing LNG in March 2018 and shipped its first commercial cargo of the fuel in the following month.

It has a storage capacity of 14.6 billion cubic feet and a daily send-out capacity of 1.8 bcf.

Dominion previously said that the facility produces LNG for ST Cove Point, a joint venture of Japan’s Sumitomo Corporation and Tokyo Gas, and for India’s Gail under 20-year contracts.
