Monkey Island LNG, which was established by Southern California Telephone Company, announced the selection in a statement on Thursday.
“After an extensive technology selection study and analysis on multiple technologies, Monkey Island LNG selected the optimized cascade process based on its operational flexibility, quick restart capabilities, high efficiency, and proven performance above nameplate capacity,” Greg Michaels, CEO of Monkey Island LNG.
“The decision marks a major milestone in advancing Monkey Island LNG’s mission to deliver TrueCost LNG, a radically transparent, cost-efficient model that eliminates hidden fees and aligns incentives across the LNG value chain,” Michaels said.
Monkey Island LNG said its 246-acre project site, located on Monkey Island in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, is “strategically positioned” with access to both deepwater shipping channels and abundant US natural gas supply.
The company did not provide further details regarding the development.
According to Monkey Island LNG’s website, the facility will serve both US domestic offtakers and global export markets.
Besides ConocoPhillips tech, Monkey Island LNG’s EPC contractor is McDermott.
Monkey Island LNG will have up to five liquefaction trains to liquefy natural gas at a production rate of approximately 5 mtpa per train.
The project design calls for three LNG storage tanks on the Monkey Island site.
Each LNG storage tank will have a capacity of approximately 180,000 cubic meters.
The Monkey Island LNG facility will support expanding LNG demand by providing natural gas liquefaction services to global buyers “in 2032 and beyond,” the website shows.
