According to a statement by Petrovietnam, its CEO Le Manh Cuong and Nebula’s chairman Peter Gibson met in Hanoi on June 22 to explore cooperation opportunities in LNG infrastructure, energy storage, AI, and digital transformation.
“Nebula Energy’s expertise in LNG optimization, smart grids, energy storage, and digital platforms aligns closely with PetroVietnam’s strategy to modernize infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and accelerate green and digital transformation,” the company said.
The cooperation between the two firms could play a “critical” role in enhancing Vietnam’s LNG value chain and strategic reserves, improving efficiency and resilience of energy infrastructure, accelerating AI and digital applications in industrial operations, and strengthening national energy security, Petrovietnam said.
In February this year, PV Gas, a unit of Petrovietnam, announced that the company and its partner Nebula held a meeting with the government of Ha Tinh province.
PV Gas provided an update on the development of the North Central LNG terminal project which will be located in the Vung Ang Economic Zone.
The firm noted that the Ha Tinh province approved the LNG facility in September last year.
Cai Mep LNG
In April this year, Nebula Energy’s AG&P LNG agreed to acquire a 100 percent stake in the Cai Mep LNG import terminal in Vietnam.
The move followed AG&P LNG’s initial acquisition announcement of a 49 percent stake in 2024 from Vietnam’s Hai Linh.
Upon completion of the transaction and regulatory approvals, Cai Mep LNG Terminal Company will become a wholly owned subsidiary of AG&P LNG, with Hai Linh fully divesting its shareholding.
The Cai Mep facility is the second LNG import facility in Vietnam, adding to the PV Gas-operated Thi Vai LNG terminal in Ba Ria-Vung Tau province.
It has a capacity of 3 mtpa, with the potential to double the capacity.
Last year, AG&P LNG and Hai Linh received the first commissioning cargo at their Cai Mep LNG import terminal.
