Stena RoRo inks charter deal for one LNG-powered ferry with Marine Atlantic

Sweden’s Stena RoRo said it has signed a new charter agreement for a single LNG-powered ferry with Canada’s Marine Atlantic.

As a result, Stena has ordered its tenth E-Flexer vessel from the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard in Weihai, the firm said in a statement on Wednesday.

Following delivery in 2024, the LNG-powered ship will run in eastern Canada between Newfoundland and Nova Scotia. It will feature dual-fuel engines and a battery-hybrid solution.

The roll-on/roll-off cargo and passenger ferry will have a length of 202.9m and a beam of 27.8m.

Moreover, it will have a capacity for 1,100 passengers and 2,471 lane meters, according to Stena RoRo.

This new charter contract follows a deal Stena RoRo had signed earlier this week with French shipping firm Brittany Ferries for two LNG-powered ferries of the same class.
