Teekay secures charters for three LNG carriers

Teekay LNG said it has secured one-year charters for three liquefied natural gas carriers.

The Bermuda-based firm revealed in its first-quarter report that the existing charterer has exercised its option in March to extend the charter contract for the 2008-built 165,500-cbm Arwa Spirit.

The charterer has extended the contract to May 2022 at a fixed rate, Teekay, which holds a 52 percent stake in the DFDE carrier Arwa Spirit, said.

Moreover, the Bermuda-based firm has won charterers for two ME-GI LNG carriers.

In April, Teekay secured a fixed-rate charter contract for the 2016-built 173,000-cbm Oak Spirit. This contract will start in August or September, for a period of one year.

Also, the LNG shipper won another one-year, spot market-linked charter contract. The fixed-rate deal for the 2016-built 173,000-cbm Creole Spirit already started in March, Teekay said.

Following these charters, the firm has secured employment for 98 percent of its LNG fleet for 2021, and 89 percent for 2022, it said.
