Venture Global’s Calcasieu Pass LNG project to commission gas turbine

Venture Global LNG’s Calcasieu Pass export project in Louisiana has received approval from US regulators to commission a gas turbine as it continues to progress towards the first production.

The Calcasieu Pass project will produce about 10 mtpa of LNG from 18 modular units configured in 9 blocks.

The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission said in a letter dated May 10 it had approved Venture Global’s request to introduce “temporary aqueous ammonia to the LM2500 gas turbine.”

Venture Global gets Calcasieu Pass modular trains from Baker Hughes’ manufacturing facility in Italy.

The company said earlier this year it had received about a half of the 18 modular units with a capacity of 0.6 mtpa, each.

In addtion, Venture has also said in a filing to FERC in March that it could start first exports from the LNG facility by the end of this year with full operations planned in mid-2022.

Some reports also suggested the firm had issued a tender for cargoes from Calcasieu Pass for delivery starting later this year.

Once operational, the Calcasieu Pass Pass project would become the seventh large LNG export facility in the US.
