Finland’s tech firm Wartsila has signed a deal with US-based cruise operator Carnival to support the latter’s four LNG-powered cruise vessels.
Warstila said in a statement on Monday that the 8-year lifecycle agreement covers four cruise vessels within the Princess Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line fleets, including two newbuild vessels currently under construction.
The agreement marks the first service contract between the companies covering Carnival’s LNG-fuelled cruise ships.
Under the order, which was booked in the second quarter, Wartsilä will provide a lifecycle maintenance solution for the vessels’ Wartsilä dual-fuel engines and related equipment.
The scope of the agreement includes planned and unplanned maintenance support, spare parts supply and logistics, major engine overhauls, remote monitoring and condition-based maintenance, technical audits and performance reviews, and others.
Wartsila did not provide the price tag of the deal
Carnival pioneered LNG use in the cruise industry in 2018 and now leads the industry with 11 LNG-capable cruise ships in operation.
By the end of 2033, the company expects seven additional LNG-capable ships to join the fleet.
