Sources told LNG Prime that the new order at China’s Jiangnan is for up to six 175,000-cbm vessels, including one or two optional vessels.
The price per vessel is expected to be between $220 million and $230 million, with deliveries scheduled for 2029.
Adnoc L&S recently took delivery of the sixth 175,000-cbm LNG carrier from Jiangnan.
Al Taweelah is the last of six LNG carriers Adnoc L&S ordered during 2022. The entire order is worth more than $1.2 billion.
The sources said that the new vessels are expected to be similar in design to these delivered LNG carriers.
These “LNG Jumbo” dual-fuel carriers feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane system, WinGD engines, and a partial reliquefaction system.
Moreover, the sources said that Adnoc L&S is expected to exercise options for LNG carriers at South Korean shipbuilders Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean.
In 2024, Adnoc L&S placed orders worth up to $2.5 billion for eight firm LNG carriers at the yards.
The LNG carriers have a capacity of 174,000 cbm and feature ME-GA and XDF2.2 engines.
Adnoc L&S said at the time that each of the shipbuilding deals included one optional LNG carrier.
However, sources said that the new orders are expected to include more vessels.
It appears that Adnoc L&S has up to six optional vessels at each yard.
LNG Prime contacted Adnoc L&S for comment on the potential new orders.
A spokesman for Adnoc L&S said that the company would not comment on market rumors or speculation.
