Avenir LNG carrier nearing completion

Singapore’s Offshore Technology Development has recently completed the installation of a ballast water treatment system on Avenir LNG’s small-scale vessel.

The tech development unit of Keppel Offshore & Marine said in a statement it commissioned the system on a 7500 cubic meter carrier with bunkering capability currently being built at the Keppel Nantong Shipyard in China.

The Chinese yard is building two sister vessels for London-based Avenir LNG, a joint venture consisting of Stolt-Nielsen, Hoegh LNG and Golar LNG.

OTD did not specify on which LNG carrier it installed the new equipment but it was probably on the second vessel that Keppel Nantong launched on April 11.

The first vessel small-scale LNG carrier out of this batch hit the water back in July last year.

Petronas will use the first vessel for LNG bunkering operations across Malaysia while the second carrier will transport chilled fuel for Golar Power to various ports across Brazil.

Both of the vessels will start their respective charters during the course of this year.

These sister ships are 123.4 meters long and feature dual-fuelled propulsion and cost about $4o million, each.

Besides these two ships, Avenir LNG has similar 7.500-cbm carriers on order at the Nantong CIMC Sinopacific Offshore & Engineering yard in China.

These two vessels should be ready for LNG deliveries during the course of the next year.

The Chinese yard also has a contract with Avenir LNG for the construction of two 20,000-cbm LNG carriers with delivery dates also scheduled for 2021.
