Baker Hughes scores Petronas FLNG gig

US energy services firm Baker Hughes has won a contract to deliver compressor trains for the third floating LNG producer JGC and Samsung Heavy Industries are building for Malaysia’s Petronas.

Black & Veatch, a subcontractor to the JGC and SHI consortium, awarded the deal to Baker Hughes, according to a statement by the latter.

Under the deal, Baker Hughes will deliver two LM9000-driven compressor trains for the nearshore LNG facility in Sabah, Malaysia, it said.

Baker Hughes did not provide the price tag of the contract.

Japan’s LNG engineer JGC and South Korea’s Samsung Heavy are expected to deliver the first nearshore FLNG in the world in 2027.

The FLNG will have a minimum production capacity of 2 million tonnes and a total storage capacity of 200,000 cbm.

Upon completion, the nearshore LNG plant will increase Petronas’ LNG production from floating LNG facilities from 2.7 mtpa to 4.7 mtpa.

Currently, Petronas operates two floating LNG facilities, namely the 1.2 mtpa PFLNG Satu as well as the 1.5 mtpa PFLNG Dua, both located offshore Sabah.
