BV OKs GTT’s LNG fuel tank

Classification society Bureau Veritas has granted approval in principle to France’s GTT for a fuel tank as the global fleet of LNG-powered vessels continues to grow.

The approval is for the NO96 membrane containment system for application on LNG-powered ultra large container vessels (ULCVs), GTT said.

Moreover, GTT and BV worked together to review the compatibility and safe integration of the NO96 technology as an LNG fuel tank in a container vessel hull.

In addition, they completed a liquid motion assessment of the tank configuration over the course of the AiP study.

GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière said the approval allows the firm to offer “increasingly competitive solutions that meet the requirements of the LNG market as a marine fuel.”

Furthermore, he said that that this would enable all GTT’s licensees to offer membrane solutions to this market.
