HD Hyundai Samho’s parent HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering said on Wednesday that the shipbuilder will build two LNG carriers for an unidentified North American owner.
Moreover, the delivery of the LNG carriers is expected to be completed by July 2029.
HD KSOE said the contract is worth 748.5 billion won ($508 million), or approximately $254 million per vessel.
The group did not reveal further details.
Sources told LNG Prime that BW returned to order more LNG carriers at HD Hyundai Samho.
These LNG carriers are also expected to feature three tanks instead of four, as the previously ordered two carriers, the sources said.
BW LNG said in November 2025 that it had ordered two new LNG vessels from HD Hyundai Group, scheduled for delivery in the early fourth quarter of 2028.
Both vessels will be equipped with XDF 2.2 propulsion with VCR, shaft generators, and a full reliquefaction system, it said.
After that, BW LNG confirmed to LNG Prime that it is working with GTT, DNV, and HD Hyundai Group to adopt a new three-tank LNG carrier design.
The two new vessels (H8340 and H8341) will each have a capacity of 177,000 cbm, and not 174,000 cbm.
BW said that the design, which is an extension of GTT’s proven Mark III cargo containment system, is based on three cargo tanks with a combined capacity of about 177,000 cbm and a low passive boil-off of 0.08 percent/volume per day.
BW confirms order
LNG Prime invited BW to comment on the new order at HD Hyundai Samho and vessel details, but the company did not reply by the time this article was published.
BW confirmed the order later on Wednesday by adding the two XDF newbuilds, H8358 and H8359, each with a capacity of 177,000 cbm, to its website.
According to the website, BW currently has 30 LNG carriers in its fleet, including the two vessels ordered in November last year and the new order.
In addition to LNG carriers, BW LNG also operates four FSRUs.
