China’s Wison to build new yard in Qidong

Chinese FLNG builder Wison New Energies will build a new yard for offshore facilities in Qidong.

According to a statement by WNE, the company and the Qidong municipal government of the Jiangsu province signed an investment agreement on August 1 for WNE’s new yard in Qidong Lusi Port Economic Development Zone.

The WNE Qidong yard lies in the eastern harbor of Lusi Port, 98 km away from its Shanghai HQ, and only 85 km away from its Nantong yard which constructs floating facilities, it said.

“These three yards form a stable triangle facilitating the management and execution throughout the project life cycle,” it said.

WNE will fully leverage the unique geographical location and natural conditions of Lusi to transform the Wison Qidong yard into a “high-end” offshore equipment manufacturing facility, accommodating hull and module fabrication, integration, and commissioning, the company said

The yard yard covers about 1.2 million square meters, and the first phase contains a shoreline length of 1370 meters with an excavated deep-water harbor basin.

According to the development plan, there will be a 520m x 110m offshore dock, along with a 2,000t gantry crane.

This yard will also have a module assembly area of 150,000 square meters equipped with a 1200t gantry crane, a berth for lifting and shipping modules up to 5,000t, and a RoRo shipping terminal for modules up to 10,000t, Wison said.

“Wison Qidong Yard will be able to process 250,000 tons of steel per year by the time its Phase I is built and put into operation in Q4, 2025,” the company said.

Three FLNGs

This new move follows Wison’s cooperation deal with Zhoushan CIMC Changhong Shipyard and its announcement saying that it will discontinue all ongoing Russian projects and that it will stop taking any new Russian business.

At the same time, Wison said it has decided to sell its entire equity interest in Zhoushan Wison Offshore & Marine.

Wison or any entity of Wison will not have any ownership in the new Zhoushan shareholding, the company said.

Wison’s announcement regarding the Russian business came one day after the firm secured a contract from a unit of Genting to build a floating LNG unit worth about $1 billion.

Following completion in 2026, the 1.2 mtpa FLNG will be installed in Indonesia.

This is Wison’s third FLNG contract, after contracts with Exmar and Eni.

Also, this will be the first FLNG facility in Indonesia and the ninth FLNG in the world, according to Wison.

Wison won a contract from Italy’s Eni in December 2022 to build a 380 meters long 2.4 mtpa FLNG and officially started work on the project in January last year.

The company in May completed the installation of all SPB tanks on the FLNG, which will serve the Marine XII offshore FLNG project in Congo.
