French LNG containment specialist GTT is continuing to book new orders on the back of strong demand for LNG tanker newbuilds at yards in South Korea.
According to a statement on Thursday, GTT won a contract from Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering to design tanks for one 174,000-cbm LNG vessel.
GTT said the vessel would feature its NO96 GW membrane containment system.
DSME expects to deliver the vessel in the third quarter of 2024.
The LNG containment giant did not provide any additional information regarding the order.
This contract could be related to DSME’s announcement on January 17.
The shipbuilder said then it would build one LNG carrier for an unidentified owner in Oceania and deliver it by the end of December 2024.
Sources said at that time that Japan’s MOL was behind this order.
Besides this contract, DSME has this year secured orders for four LNG carriers from Greece’s Maran Gas. They will all have GTT’s NO96 GW membrane containment system.
GTT’s chief Philippe Berterottière recently said the market will require at least 91 additional LNG carriers to ship contracted volumes of LNG from plants under construction.
The projects include the sixth Sabine Pass train, Calcasieu Pass, Tangguh Phase 2, Coral FLNG, Tortue FLNG, Pluto Train 2, and others.
Last year, GTT received tank orders for 68 LNG carriers, 2 ethane vessels and 6 onshore storage tanks.
