FueLNG completes first Simops bunkering with NYK’s car carrier

Singapore’s FueLNG, a joint venture consisting of Shell and Seatrium Offshore & Marine, has completed what it says is Southeast Asia’s first Simops LNG bunkering of a car carrier.

During the Simops operation on August 6, NYK’s LNG-powered pure car and truck carrier, Jasmine Leader, received LNG fuel from the 7,500-cbm bunkering vessel, FueLNG Bellina, according to a social media post by FueLNG.

The bunkering operation took place at the PSA Asia Automobile Terminal Singapore.

“Simultaneous operations (Simops), which involve bunkering together with cargo handling, ensure a seamless and efficient port call for the Jasmine Leader,” FueLNG said.

“At a time when the maritime industry is striving towards net zero, such an operation is a testament to our collective dedication to reducing carbon emissions and embracing cleaner alternatives,” it said.

Earlier this year, FueLNG and NYK completed what they say is the first LNG bunkering to an LNG-fueled PCTC in Singapore.

During the operation which took place on March 8, NYK’s Jasmine Leader also received LNG fuel from FueLNG Bellina.

Singapore’s first LNG bunkering ship, FueLNG Bellina, completed its first operation with a CMA CGM containership in March 2021.

FueLNG’s second bunkering vessel, the 18,000-cbm FueLNG Venosa, also completed its first bunkering operation in June.

Korea Line LNG, a unit of SM Group’s Korea Line, charterered this LNG bunkering vessel to the JV.
