GE Vernova, which completed its spin-off from General Electric in 2024, said in a statement that the order includes two 9HA.02 gas turbines and two H78 generators.
The company did not provide the pricing details.
GE Vernova noted that the new combined-cycle power plant is expected to generate more than 1.6 gigawatts (GW) of electricity, with commercial operations expected by 2030, helping support Vietnam’s growing demand for “more flexible, efficient, and reliable power generation.”
Earlier this year, GE Vernova announced new contracts for LNG power projects in Vietnam.
The company said at the time that its technology had also been approved to provide over 1.6 GW of power by Vietnam Electricity (EVN) for their Quang Trach II LNG power plant in Quang Tri province.
In February this year, EVN awarded an EPC contract to a consortium of PowerChina and Lilama for its Quang Trach II LNG power plant.
The contract is worth 25.2 trillion Vietnamese dong ($957 million).
The project consists of two components and its total investment will reach 52,490 billion dong ($2 billion).
The first is the power plant, using the combined cycle gas turbine (CCGT) technology, with a total investment of 40,123 billion dong, while the second comprises the LNG storage facility and jetty, with an estimated investment of 11,800 billion dong.
EVN is working with PetroVietnam Gas, a unit of state-owned PetroVietnam, to finalize an agreement to supply LNG to its Quang Trach II and III LNG power plants.
