Greece’s Maran Gas books single LNG carrier at DSME

South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering has received a new order from Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas to build one LNG tanker.

DSME revealed this in a statement on Tuesday saying the deal is worth 350.9 billion won or about $249 million.

The shipbuilder announced via the stock exchange almost two identical orders for single LNG carriers on Monday and Tuesday with delivery by December 2026.

Under the first order, DSME said it would build one LNG carrier for an owner in Oceania for about $249 million, but it did not reveal the name of the owner.

DSME’s stock exchange on Tuesday also said that the owner is from Oceania. The yard said in a separate statement that Maran Gas is behind this order.

Including this vessel, Maran Gas ordered in total nine LNG carriers since November last year with DSME following contracts in November, in Januaryin February, and in June.

Also, Angelicoussis and its units have booked 119 ships with the shipbuilder since 1994.

Record LNG carrier orders

The price of $249 million is much higher than $233 million per vessel Maran Gas will pay for the order in June.

DSME said the new LNG carrier would have MAN ME-GI propulsion and a reliquefaction system.

In total, the shipbuilder won orders worth about $10.4 billion this year.

It previously exceeded its target of $8.9 billion with the big part of LNG carrier orders tied to the massive QatarEnergy program.

The shipbuilder, which is being acquired by South Korea’s Hanwha Group, won orders for six LNG-powered containerships and 38 LNG tankers this year.

With this, DSME also set a record for the largest number of orders for LNG carriers in a year since its establishment, surpassing its yearly record of 37 LNG carriers in 2014.
