French LNG containment giant GTT has secured a large order from South Korean shipbuilder Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.
Under the new contract, GTT will design the tanks of ten 174,000-cbm LNG carriers scheduled for delivery between the first quarter of 2025 and the third quarter of 2026, according to a statement.
The tanks will be fitted with GTT’s NO96 L03+ and NO96 GW membrane containment systems.
GTT said that DSME is building eight vessels on behalf of two Asian owners and two vessels on behalf of a European owner.
The Paris-based firm did not provide any additional information.
DSME, which is being acquired by South Korea’s Hanwha Group, recently revealed a deal for two LNG carriers scheduled for delivery by July 2026.
This deal is tied to Greece’s TMS Cardiff Gas and the giant shipbuilding program by QatarEnergy.
Sources said that Japan’s Meiji Shipping and Malaysia’s MISC were expected to sign contracts for LNG carriers at DSME as well.
Prior to this order, DSME revealed a contract for seven new LNG carriers tied to the Qatari program.
A Korean consortium consisting of H-Line Shipping, Pan Ocean, and SK Shipping ordered these vessels.
