GTT secures order from DSME for LNG carrier sextet

French LNG containment giant GTT said it has secured a new order from South Korea’s Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering.

According to a statement on Wednesday, GTT will design the tanks for six 174,000-cbm LNG vessels.

GTT won the order in the second quarter and the vessels will feature its NO96 GW or NO96 L03+ membrane containment system.

DSME would deliver four LNG carriers to an undisclosed owner in Asia and two vessels to Greece’s Maran Gas between the fourth quarter 2024 and the second quarter of 2026, GTT said.

The LNG containment specialist did not provide any additional information regarding the order.

In June, DSME received the new order from Maria Angelicoussis-led Maran Gas.

Including these two vessels, Maran Gas has booked in total eight LNG carriers since November last year with DSME following contracts in November, in January, and in February.

As per the four other LNG carriers, this order could be related to an announcement by DSME on June 7.

DSME said in that announcement it would build four 174,000-cbm LNG carriers as part of the massive shipbuilding program by state-run QatarEnergy and deliver the vessels by the first quarter of 2025.

A Korean consortium consisting of H-Line Shipping, which leads the consortium, Pan Ocean, and SK Shipping ordered these vessels.
