GTT to design tanks for VLEC duo

France’s GTT, the world’s largest LNG tank maker, will design tanks for two very large ethane carriers as part of a new order revealed on Thursday.

GTT said in a statement it received the order from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries which would build the VLECs on behalf of an Asian shipowner.

The tanks will feature GTT’s Mark III membrane containment system and have a cargo capacity of 98,000 cbm.

Moreover, Hyundai Heavy plans to deliver the ships in the last quarter of 2022 and the first quarter of 2023, GTT said.

These latest-generation multi-gas vessels can carry ethane, LPG, and ethylene but also LNG, GTT said.

GTT did not reveal the name of the owner. Brokers reported this week that Singapore’s Eastern Pacific Shipping placed an order for two 98,000-cbm VLECs at Hyundai Heavy with a delivery window in early 2023.
