Himalaya’s tenth LNG-powered bulker nears delivery

China’s New Times is finalizing work on Himalaya Shipping’s tenth of twelve LNG-powered Newcastlemax bulk carriers.

NTS said in a statement on Wednesday that the 210,000-dwt LNG dual-fuel bulk carrier, Mount Denali, has started its sea trials on March 22.

According to the shipbuilder, it took only 29 days from the launching of the 299.95 meters long LNG-powered bulker to the start of its trials, marking a new record for NTS for this type of ship.

Himalaya Shipping expects to take delivery of Mount Denali next month, its website shows.

The last two LNG-powered bulkers, Mount Aconcagua and Emai, are expected to join Himalaya’s fleet in June.

In January, Himalaya took delivery of three 210,000-dwt Newcastlemax LNG dual fuel newbuildings from NTS.

Once all vessels are delivered, Himalaya will have eleven vessels on index linked charters which can be converted to the prevailing FFA market rates in, it previously said.

One ship is fixed on a fixed time-charter rate.
