Hyundai Samho nets another single LNG carrier order

Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries has secured another order to build one liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker, according to its parent Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering.

This order is worth about 278.2 billion won ($224 million), KSOE said on Tuesday.

HSHI will deliver the 174,000-cbm LNG carrier to an unidentified European shipowner by October 2025.

KSOE did not disclose any additional information.

Last week, KSOE revealed a similar order to this one for one LNG carrier tied to Norway’s Knutsen.

One shipbuilding source told LNG Prime on Tuesday that the owner behind this newest order could be Japan’s NYK.

NYK’s JV with Geogas, France LNG Shipping, has earlier this year ordered one LNG carrier at HSHI, backed by a charter with EDF.

KSOE and its units keep wining orders this year on the back of high demand for LNG carriers and containerships.

The shipbuilding giant won orders for a total of 87 ships worth about $10.08 billion this year, achieving 57.8 percent of its annual target.

KSOE has set a target for this year of $17.4 billion, compared to $14.9 billion last year.
