Jiangnan awards first LNG carrier tank job to GTT

French LNG containment giant GTT confirmed it has secured a contract from China’s Jiangnan Shipyard to work on Jovo’s new carrier.

GTT said in a statement on Tuesday it received the order in July for the cargo handling system and tank design of Jovo’s 79,800-cbm mid-scale LNG carrier.

“This is GTT’s first order for a membrane LNGC from Jiangnan, making the shipyard the second Chinese LNGC yard to construct a vessel with GTT technology,” the Paris-based firm said.

GTT previously worked on LNG carriers only with Hudong-Zhonghua in China.

The vessel will feature GTT’s Mark III Flex membrane containment system. This will be the first LNG carrier built in China to have the Mark III technology, according to GTT.

Also, Jiangnan is entering the mid-scale LNG carrier market with this project as it also looks to build its first large LNG vessel, the statement said.

The yard will deliver the LNG carrier to Jovo in the fourth quarter of 2023.
