MSC is said to have ordered up to 20 LNG dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of approximately 20,000 TEU at Chinese Hengli Heavy.
MB Shipbrokers said that the deliveries are expected to start in the first half of 2029.
No further details have been revealed.
If confirmed, Hengli Heavy will in total build up to at least 46 LNG dual-fuel vessels for MSC.
In August 2024, Hengli Heavy and MSC signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement in Geneva.
The two firms agreed to collaborate in a wide range of areas, including shipbuilding, engine manufacturing, ship repair, and vessel retrofitting.
MSC first booked ten LNG dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of 21,000 teu at the Chinese yard.
The shipping giant then ordered 10 more LNG dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of 24,000 teu.
Last year, shipbuilding sources said that MSC and Hengly Heavy signed a shipbuilding agreement for six LNG dual-fuel vessels with a capacity of 22,000 teu.
VesselsValue data shows that MSC has 28 vessels on order at Hengli Heav<, including eight vessels with a capacity of 22,000 teu.
The vessels with a capacity of 21,000 teu are scheduled for delivery starting in 2027. They each cost $215 million.
Moreover, the 24,000 teu vessels, each worth $230 million, are scheduled to be delivered to MSC starting in 2028, while the 22,000 teu vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028 and 2029.
