According to a statement by Zhoushan Changhong International Shipyard, it has secured a new order from MSC.
The 4+2+2 order includes four firm vessels and four options.
Zhoushan Changhong said the LNG dual-fuel container vessels will have a capacity of 21,700 teu.
The shipbuilder did not reveal any other information regarding the contract.
Zhoushan Changhong noted this is the second cooperation between the two sides following orders for 32 LNG dual-fuel container vessels.
MSC first ordered ten LNG dual-fuel 11,500-teu vessels from the shipbuilder and, after that, added ten LNG dual-fuel 11,300-teu vessels.
The shipbuilder will deliver the first batch of the vessels in 2025 and 2026 and the other ten ships during the second half of 2026 and 2027.
Most recently, MSC booked 12 LNG dual-fuel vessels at Zhoushan Changhong.
These containerships will have a capacity of 19,000 teu and are each worth about $210 million, according to VesselsValue data.
TMS order
Zhoushan Changhong also confirmed it had secured an order from Greece’s TMS Group for LNG dual-fuel containerships.
The shipbuilder said the order includes 10 LNG dual-fuel containrships with a capacity of 11,400 teu.
Zhoushan Changhong said this is the first cooperation with TMS, but it did not provide further information.
Brokers recently reported that TMS ordered six container vessels with a capacity of 11,400 teu at Zhoushan Changhong, saying the order also includes an option for four more ships.
This contract is said to be worth $140 million per vessel, and the ships are scheduled for delivery from 2027 to 2029.
This means that the MSC and TMS orders could be worth more than $2.4 billion.
CIMC ORIC, a unit of China International Marine Containers (CIMC), will design these containerships.
CIMC is a shareholder in Zhoushan Changhong via its leasing unit.
Zhoushan Changhong said the 22,000-teu containership type has an overall length of 366 meters, a beam of 61.3 meters, and a depth of 33.2 meters, while the 11,400-teu containership type has an overall length of 299 meters, a beam of 48.2 meters, and a depth of 27 meters.
