Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) has added the fourth LNG-powered vessel built by China’s Jiangnan to its fleet.
Jiangnan held a naming ceremony for the LNG dual-fuel Kota Embun on Monday.
This follows the delivery of PIL’s third LNG dual-fuel vessel, Kota Ebony, in February.
With a capacity of 14,000 teu, these vessels are the largest vessels in PIL’s fleet and also the first to run on LNG.
The vessels are 335 meters long and 51 meters wide.
They also feature GTT’s Mark III LNG containment system, an optimized hull form, and variable-frequency drive motors.
In addition, PIL said Kota Embun is the first vessel to feature a bow windshield for improved aerodynamics, which is expected to reduce fuel consumption and corresponding emissions by 1 percent per annum on the Far East to West Coast Central and South America Service 2 route that the vessel will ply.
In March 2022, PIL ordered four 14,000-teu LNG dual-fuel containerships at Jiangnan with deliveries scheduled in 2024 and 2025.
Moreover, PIL’s other LNG dual-fuel containerships on order include four 8,000 teu vessels, and five 13,000 teu vessels.
Most recently, PIL ordered five 9,000 teu LNG dual-fuel container ships from China’s Hudong-Zhonghua.
It brings the company’s newbuild vessels ordered since 2022 to 18.
