Shell adds another LNG carrier to its fleet

A unit of UK-based LNG giant Shell has added another chartered liquefied natural gas carrier to its fleet.

Shell LNG said in a social media post that the newest LNG carrier to join Shell’s fleet, Orion Hugo, was delivered on August 11 in Ulsan, South Korea.

HD Hyundai Heavy built this LNG carrier for Global Meridian Holdings, part of JP Morgan Asset Management.

The vessel, which is part of Shell’s LNG fleet rejuvenation program comprising 24 sister ships, was developed by Shell in collaboration with various shipyards and selected shipping companies.

Shell LNG said Orion Hugo features an air-lubrication system, shaft power generation, hull form optimization for operating speed, and maximized cargo filling capacity.

The vessel has MAN ME-GA engines and GTT’s Mark III containment system.

Shell LNG added that Orion Hugo has embarked on its maiden voyage and was heading to Shell’s QCLNG terminal on Curtis Island off Gladstone in Australia’s Queensland.

The vessel was docked at the QCLNG facility on Monday, its AIS data provided by VesselsValue shows.
