Stena nets contract for Delta’s LNG-to-power project in Vietnam

A unit of Sweden’s Stena has secured a front-end engineering design contract from Delta Offshore for the latter’s planned project in Bac Lieu, Vietnam, which will include an LNG terminal and a 3.2-GW power plant.

Under the deal, Stena Power & LNG Solutions would provide FEED for usage of its jetty-less LNG transfer and regasification solutions, the Norway-based firm said in a statement on Tuesday.

DOE will employ Stena’s jetty-less floating terminal and self-installing regas platform to assist in providing energy to the project in the Mekong Delta.

The new contract follows a deal by the two firms signed in August last year under which DOE agreed to utilize Stena’s jetty-less technology.

Stena’s technology will be located approximately 40km off the Vietnam shoreline.

The FEED will include detailed model testing to ensure optimum performance with the environmental conditions in the Mekong Delta, Stena said in the statement.

Besides Stena, McDermott also won last year a contract to provide FEED services for the subsea pipeline connecting the regasification facility and the Bac Lieu power plant.

As per the onshore power plant itself, Bechtel completed the pre-FEED study necessary to establish the engineering basis of the plant, while Black & Veatch completed their concept study of the plan, Delta said earlier this year.

The developer recently also secured land approval for the LNG-to-power project.
