The Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office said in a statement on Wednesday that the UK government “is taking Russian oil ‘off the market’ as 90 sanctions announced.”
“Four oil terminals in China, 44 tankers in the ‘shadow fleet’ transporting Russian oil, and Nayara Energy Limited – which imported 100 million barrels of Russian crude worth over $5 billion in 2024 alone – have all been hit by this latest wave of sanctions,” the statement said.
The UK is also sanctioning seven specialised LNG tankers and the Chinese Beihai LNG terminal.
“Beihai has been importing LNG from Arctic LNG 2 – the severely disrupted flagship Russian LNG project, sanctioned by the UK in February 2024,” the statement said.
State-owned LNG terminal operator PipeChina operates the Beihai LNG terminal in the Guangxi province.
Recent reports indicate that several sanctioned vessels loaded LNG at the Novatek-operated Arctic LNG 2 plant and delivered it to China, with the first delivery arriving on board Arctic Mulan at PipeChina’s 6 mtpa regasification terminal in Guangxi on August 28.
According to the statement, the sanctioned LNG carriers are Buran (IMO 9953509), Zarya (IMO 9953535), Voskhod (IMO 9953511), Christophe de Margerie (IMO 9737187), Clean Oocean (IMO 9637492), Clean Vision (IMO 9655456), and Clean Planet (IMO 9637507).
These vessels add to the previously sanctioned LNG carriers by the UK government.
