Wartsila to supply reliquefaction tech for eight LNG carriers

Finland’s Wartsila has secured a new contract to supply reliquefaction systems for eight liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.

The orders by China’s Hudong-Zhonghua were booked into Wartsila’s order intake in the first quarter of this year, according to a statement by the latter.

Wartsila said these eight vessels will be owned by various leading global shipping companies.

For each ship Wartsila will supply its compact reliq single booster (CRSB) reliquefaction system.

Wartsila did not provide the price tag of the deal.

The equipment is scheduled to be delivered starting in 2024, and the first ship is expected to be delivered in 2025.

In June last year, Wartsila secured a contract to supply reliquefaction equipment for three LNG carriers ordered by Norway’s Knutsen at Hyundai Heavy Industries.

This boosted the total number of orders for Knutsen to eight, following two in 2020, and three in 2021.
