Wison inks LNG pact with Baker Hughes

China’s Wison (Nantong) Heavy Industry, a unit of Wison Offshore and Marine, has signed a deal with US energy services firm Baker Hughes to collaborate on floating LNG and onshore LNG applications.

The two firms signed the memorandum of understanding in Shanghai on November 5, according to a statement by Wison Offshore and Marine.

Wison said the signing ceremony saw the presence of An Wenxin, VP of WOM, Xuan Chi (Damien) Nguyen, CTO of WOM, and a delegation from Baker Hughes, chaired by its chairman and CEO, Lorenzo Simonelli.

The memorandum seeks to establish a solid groundwork for the collaboration between the two companies, paving the way for future project opportunities in the field of FLNG and onshore LNG applications, it said.

Also, the deal aims to develop a long-term relationship between the two parties, formalizing the development of a frame agreement to streamline business processes and standardize technical products to meet market opportunities and ensure optimum solutions during bids and project execution, Wison said.

Wison has awarded two contracts to Baker Hughes since December last year, including for an onshore LNG plant and a floating LNG producer.

The Chinese firm awarded Baker Hughes another procurement contract at the end of 2022 to support a 2.4 Mtpa FLNG project.

Wison won a contract from Italy’s Eni in December last year to build a 380 meters long 2.4 mtpa FLNG and officially started work on the project on January 17, 2023.

It will be able to store over 180,000 cubic meters of LNG.

The FLNG will serve Eni’s Congo project which will reach an overall LNG production capacity of 3 million tons per year, or about 4.5 billion cubic meters/year, from 2025.
