Wuhu launches LNG-powered bitumen tanker Baltic Narval

China’s Wuhu Shipyard has floated out the second LNG-powered bitumen carrier it is building for Colas Group’s Continental Bitumen.

Wuhu launched the 21,100-cbm bitumen and oil product LNG-powered tanker, Baltic Narval, on March 7, according to a LinkedIn post by Continental Bitumen’s COO Emmanuel Cornet.

Cornet expects the first LNG-powered vessel in this batch of two, Atlantic Narval, to carry out its first loading in Greece in June.

The second ship should join the fleet in August.

Sweden’s FKAB, the designer of the vessels, announced the launching of the first vessel in October last year.

Wuhu started building this 21,100-cbm bitumen and oil product LNG-powered tanker in November 2021 after Continental Bitumen placed the order in January the same year.

The BV-classed 169 meters long vessels will feature dual-fuel propulsion and also a battery pack.

The main four-stroke DF engine will be capable to run on either LNG or bio-LNG.
