Australia’s Woodside changes name

Australian LNG producer Woodside has changed the company’s name after its shareholders approved the proposed merger with BHP’s oil and gas business.

Woodside Petroleum now becomes Woodside Energy Group and the company has registered the name change by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC).

Also, Woodside said its ASX ticker code would change from WPL to WDS with effect from Wednesday, May 25.

During the company’s annual general meeting on Thursday, Woodside shareholders voted to approve the merger with BHP’s petroleum business.

According to Woodside, 98.66 percent of the votes submitted were in favor of the merger.

The merger would create a top 10 global LNG producer worth about $40 billion and transform Woodside by doubling production, diversifying the portfolio and offering multiple growth opportunities, the firm previously said.

Woodside expects completion of the merger to occur on June 1, 2022.
