Woodside hits Pluto LNG truck loading milestone

Australian LNG producer Woodside recently completed the 1000th operation at the Pluto LNG truck loading facility in Western Australia.

Woodside announced this milestone operation in a social media post on Monday.

“The trucked LNG is loaded at Pluto LNG in Karratha for delivery to customers in regional Western Australia, offering a lower-carbon alternative to diesel for use in power generation at remote mine sites,” Woodside said.

The Perth-based LNG player did not provide any additional information.

Woodside and EDL started delivering LNG to customers from the Pluto truck loading facility back in 2019.

Located at Woodside’s Pluto LNG export terminal on the Burrup Peninsula, the facility can load up to 200,000 tonnes of LNG per year, displacing up to 300 million liters of diesel, according to Woodside.

Last year, Woodside and EDL signed another contract to supply LNG from the Pluto truck loading facility.

Under the contract, Woodside and EDL supply about 650 terajoules of LNG per year to the Thunderbird mineral sands project in northern Western Australia.

The duo signed a 10-year deal in April 2021 to supply trucked LNG to Strandline’s Coburn mineral sands project in Western Australia and also agreed two new supply deals during the same year with Abra Mining and Calidus Resources.

Woodside’s Pluto LNG terminal currently has one train with a capacity of 4.9 mtpa, while Woodside and US engineering and construction firm Bechtel started building the second Pluto train last year.

In November 2021, Woodside took a final investment decision on the Scarborough and Pluto LNG Train 2 developments. The project is more than 46 percent complete.
