Baker Hughes bags contract for second Pluto LNG train

US energy services firm Baker Hughes has won a contract to supply equipment for the expansion of Woodside’s Pluto LNG plant located on Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.

Baker Hughes said in a statement on Tuesday it has secured the contract from engineering and construction giant Bechtel, the EPC contractor for the second Pluto LNG train.

Under the deal, Baker Hughes will supply six LM6000PF+ aeroderivative gas turbines and 14 centrifugal compressors for the main refrigerant train, as well as one gas turbine generator in addition to the existing Train 1 power system.

The construction of Pluto LNG’s second train builds on Baker Hughes’ existing technology supply for Pluto LNG’s first train, which has been in operation since 2012, the firm said.

Packaging of the turbine/compressor train, manufacturing of compressors and testing of the trains will take place at Baker Hughes’ facilities in Florence and Massa, Italy.

Baker Hughes did not reveal the price tag of the deal.

Australia’s Woodside recently took a final investment decision on the Scarborough and Pluto LNG Train 2 developments worth about $12 billion.

The approval also includes new domestic gas facilities and modifications to the first Pluto 4.9 mtpa train on Western Australia’s Burrup Peninsula.

Pluto Train 2 will process gas from the Scarborough offshore gas resource and have a capacity of about 5 mtpa.
