Chevron charters accommodation vessel for Wheatstone LNG project

Energy giant Chevron has chartered one accommodation vessel from Norway’s Edda Accommodation for its giant Wheatstone LNG export project in Western Australia.

Østensjø Rederi’s Edda Accommodation said in a statement on Monday that Chevron would charter the 2011-built offshore accommodation and service vessel Edda Fides, starting in the second quarter of 2022.

The 130 meters long vessel would provide accommodation and associated facilities for up to 300 people for an upcoming turnaround maintenance event on the Wheatstone offshore gas processing platform, off the coast of Australia, it said.

Also, mobilization for the project would be in direct continuation of the current charter with Norway’s Equinor, Edda Accommodation said.

The firm did not reveal the price tag of the contract.

CEO Kristian Helland Vea said Edda Fides had worked at Wheatstone for Chevron back in 2017.

“The accommodation segment has been very challenging since 2017 and we are happy to see that there is more activity in the market and thus an increased need for the type of services that Edda Fides can offer,” he said.

The Wheatstone LNG facility, which shipped its first cargo in 2017, features two trains but also a domestic gas plant located at the Ashburton North Strategic Industrial Area in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.

Natural gas arrives from the offshore Wheatstone, Iago, Julimar and Brunello gas fields.
