A spokesman for DET confirmed the sub-charter of the FSRU to LNG Prime on Monday.
However, the spokesman declined to provide further information on contractual details.
Several reports said that the charterer of the unit is Egypt’s state-owned EGAS.
Earlier this year, Germany’s Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy signed a deal with Egypt’s state-owned EGAS to charter the 174,000-cbm FSRU, Energos Power, one of four units EGAS chartered to import LNG.
Energos Force, owned by Apollo’s Energos Infrastructure, is expected to arrive at Egypt’s Damietta on Tuesday, its AIS data shows.
In March 2024, Energos Force arrived at the AVG jetty in Stade.
However, DET’s FSRU-based facility has not been commissioned since then.
In March this year, the company terminated the contract related to the Stade FSRU-based facility with compatriot Hanseatic Energy Hub, the developer of the onshore LNG terminal in Stade.
Meanwhile, the next steps at the terminal site in Stade are being clarified, according to the DET spokesman.
“As the FSRU terminal in Stade is not operational, BMWE and DET are obligated to continuously explore opportunities for subchartering the Energos Force in order to prevent further financial damage to the Federal Republic of Germany and in accordance with strict budgetary regulations,” he said.
“The subchartering has been structured in such a way that it does not interfere with the ongoing examination of options for the timely completion and subsequent commissioning of the Stade site. The highest priority is the security of supply for Germany and Europe,” the spokesman said.
“BMWE, DET and, HEH are currently engaged in exploratory talks regarding the implementation of the outstanding work needed to complete the facility,” he added.
FSRUs
DET recently told LNG Prime that it plans to launch commercial operations at its second FSRU-based terminal in Wilhelmshaven in August.
In May, the 2024-built 174,000-cbm Energy Endurance delivered the commissioning cargo to Excelerate’s 138,000-cbm FSRU Excelsior in Wilhelmshaven from Venture Global LNG’s Plaquemines LNG export plant in Louisiana.
The chartered FSRU is located two kilometers south of the already operational Wilhelmshaven 1 terminal, which features the FSRU Hoegh Esperanza. It is moored at an island jetty, completed last year, and located about 1.5 km from the shore.
Excelsior delivered the first gas supplies to the grid on May 23.
Besides the Wilhelmshaven FSRU-based terminals, DET operates the Brunsbüttel facility.
